Chatham Fish Pier Tour
The town of Chatham will host a field trip to the Chatham Fish Pier, offering attendees an up-close look at one of the region’s few municipally owned, active working waterfronts. Attendees will tour two leased fish packing bays, each highlighting a distinct facet of the Pier’s impact. One bay will focus on Chatham’s long-standing support of its commercial fishing fleet and the distribution of locally landed seafood through the well-known Red’s Best brand, underscoring the Pier’s role in sustaining a traditional maritime economy. The second bay will showcase innovation and emerging marine industries, including kelp aquaculture, horseshoe crab biology, and biomedical applications, and the story behind the recent start-up of operations in the south packing bay.
The visit will also feature recent town investments in coastal resiliency and public access, including the raised south jog, the brand-new waterfront walkway, the dredging of Aunt Lydia’s Cove with bird habitat restoration, and the public observation deck, where visitors can watch seals and fishing vessels unloading their daily catch.
Following the tour, attendees have the evening free to enjoy dinner in Chatham and beyond.
