The preliminary middleweight contest was a wild one, with Ferreira dropping Petrosyan in the first round and also gaining an advantage of sorts when Petrosyan caught him with two low blows in a short span of time. After the second, referee Mark Smith took a point from Petrosyan, possibly giving Ferreira a 10-8 round.

In Round 2, it was Petrosyan complaining of a low blow after Ferreira threw out a body punch, though the strike appeared to land on Petrosyan’s side according to a replay shown during a pause in the action. None of that mattered in the end, as Ferreira took Petrosyan down and eventually worked his way into position for the fight-ending submission.

The official time of the stoppage was 4:27 into Round 2.

Ferreira (13-2) improves to 4-2 in the UFC, with this three previous wins coming by way of knockout. On the other side, Petrosyan (9-5) has now lost three straight bouts, none of which have gone past the second round.
