Gervonta Davis has been arrested on a battery charge following an alleged assault of an ex-girlfriend, Florida’s WPLG Local 10 reports.

According to Local 10, the reigning WBA lightweight champion was arrested Friday morning in relation to an incident that took place at the alleged victim’s house on June 15, Father’s Day, outside of her home in Doral, Fla.

Davis and his ex-girlfriend share custody of two children and an argument occurred between the parents when Davis was to pick up the children for Father’s Day, according to the Doral Police Department’s arrest report. Following the argument, Davis told his ex-girlfriend he no longer intended to take the children. When she reached for her daughter in the backseat, Davis allegedly “struck her in the back of the head and then slapped her in the face” (per Local 10).

Davis, 30, was arrested in Miami Beach on Friday.

This is one of several run-ins with the law Davis has had, and the third time he has been cited for allegedly assaulting a woman. On Feb. 1, 2020, Davis was caught on camera aggressively dragging an ex-girlfriend away from a celebrity basketball game. He was later arrested on charges of simple battery/domestic violence.

Davis was again charged with battery domestic violence ahead of a title fight with Hector Garcia in December 2022. A woman alleged Davis slapped her and that she feared for her life, though the accusation was later recanted and Davis went on to fight Garcia the following month.

It has already been a controversial year for Davis, who narrowly escaped losing his title and suffering his first career loss when he fought Lamont Roach this past March. Davis took a knee in the ninth round of the fight, later claiming he needed a pause in the action to wipe grease out of his eyes from a recent hair treatment, and the action was not ruled as a knockdown by referee Steve Willis. With no knockdown factored in, the bout ended in a majority draw and with Davis retaining his WBA belt.
