Jon Jones has arguably already cemented himself as the greatest fighter of all time but even he would need some help if he decided to take on a silverback gorilla.

In one of the stranger online debates in recent history, a viral message on Twitter asking if 100 humans could take out one gorilla has brought out celebrities, influencers, scientists, fighters and just about everybody else in between to weigh in on the subject. UFC bantamweight champion Merab Dvalishvili even went as far as to suggest he could do it all by himself.

But despite Jones reigning as the UFC’s current heavyweight champion, he admits he’d need some assistance to get that job done.

“One hundred men definitely beats up a gorilla,” Jones told TMZ. “When you think about the intelligence of the human being, we’ve conquered the planet. So the animals shouldn’t be a problem to us.

“Definitely not solo. I would need a lot of help but you get a bunch of guys from the NFL roster, a bunch of heavier guys from the UFC roster and we’d have that thing down in no time. Let me lead the pack. I’d like to be part of the first wave if we did that.”

Funnily enough the “winning strategy” most often theorized is that the first few people would almost certainly get mauled by the gorilla before the sheer numbers of everybody involved would eventually overtake the animal.

That doesn’t seem to concern Jones much after volunteering to lead the charge in the fight.

That said, Jones couldn’t help but laugh at the ridiculous subject, especially knowing that gorillas aren’t exactly trying to pick a fight with humans.

“I’d love to be one of the 100. I think it’s such a funny topic,” Jones said. “Everyone’s so serious about fighting this damn gorilla. What did the gorilla do to us? What did he do? It’s a funny debate.”
