The road to Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford has begun.
On Sep. 13 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, the two pound-for-pound greats will square off in a highly-anticipated superfight for the undisputed super middleweight title. It’s a fight that’s been years in the making, featuring the undisputed super middleweight champion, Alvarez, defending against the former undisputed welterweight and light welterweight champion, Crawford, and it’s getting the appropriate big fight push, including a media world tour, which began on Friday in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Things were, as expected, fairly quiet between the two champions, with both men keeping things primarily about the boxing. But things did almost get chippy for one moment when they were talking about the outcome of their match.
“He’s not going to beat me. Don’t worry about it,” Canelo said. “I think this fight is going to be in the history books of boxing, that’s for sure.”
“For sure them belts are coming with me,” Crawford responded. “They’re coming home with me.”
“You can see it, but it’s going to be difficult to take to your home,” Canelo replied.
“I’m taking them, and there ain’t nothing you’re going to be able to do about it come fight night,” said Crawford. “I promise you.”
“I know Turki is in your corner, but it’s going to be very difficult,” Canelo said. “He’s going to be so mad that day.”
“I see you,” Crawford said. “You see I’m different than all the other ones.”
“I see you, too,” Canelo retorted. “You’re nothing different. Nothing different.”
After that exchange, the two men faced off for the first time since the fight was made official.
Alvarez and Crawford will next meet up on Sunday for leg two of their media tour, which takes place in New York City.
