Jon Jones has added another legend to his hit list.
In a clash of future Hall of Famers, Jones successfully defended his heavyweight title against two-time champion Stipe Miocic in the UFC 309 main event Saturday at Madison Square Garden in New York.
It was a one-sided performance in Jones’ favor, with the longtime light heavyweight great once again showing why he’s a threat in two divisions and arguably the greatest fighter to ever compete in MMA. Jones nearly finished Miocic in the opening round with a powerful ground-and-pound assault, then proved to be too fast and technical for Miocic on the feet.
When Jones blasted Miocic with a crippling body kick followed by finishing punches in Round 3, it left little no doubt that “Bones” was the superior fighter.
As outstanding as Jones’ performance was, the 42-year-old Miocic looked slow and sluggish at times, which was noted by UFC featherweight Sodiq Yusuff.
“That felt like the Jake Paul fight all over again,” Yusuff wrote on social media, referring to the dreary win Paul picked up over Mike Tyson on Friday.
