Gamebred Bareknuckle MMA 8 results, videos: Title fight ends in controversial no-contest

The Gamebred Bareknuckle MMA bantamweight title remains vacant after Friday night’s main event clash between Randy Costa and Brandon Davis ended in a controversial no-contest in Biloxi, Miss.

Costa and Davis, who had met previously inside the UFC octagon back in 2019, came out exchanging punches violently. Costa connected good punches to the body in the clinch, sensing a good moment as Davis dealt with a big cut under his right eye. Davis managed to dig deep and come back to rock and drop Costa with punches, landing a knee and more punches until the referee stepped in.

Davis celebrated the TKO victory, but the referee was actually calling for time citing an illegal blow, a knee to the head of a downed opponent. The replay aired on the big screen but no angle was able to show for sure if the knee landed on the head or the arm. The doctor entered the cage to check on Costa, deciding he can’t continue. The official result was a no-contest due to an unintentional illegal blow.

UFC veterans Chase Sherman and Maurice Greene met in a heavyweight co-main event, and Greene has the last laugh. Leaving a Guto Inocente fight to step in as a replacement for Greg Hardy, Greene made the most of the opportunity by hurting Sherman with a knee and locking a standing guillotine choke with just under two minutes left in the clock in the second round to force the tap.

Victorious in his first fight since leaving the PFL, Greene called out Gamebred Bareknuckle MMA heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos in the post-fight interview.

Inocente stayed on the card against fellow Brazilian heavyweight Marcos Brigagao, avoiding takedown attempts — and getting back to his feet once taken to the ground — and landing a nice combo that dropped Brigagao nearly unconscious. The referee opted not to stop it, allowing the experienced kickboxer to land a couple more shots for good measure.

In the early portion of the card, Jesse Ronson choked Curtis Millender with seconds left in the opening round and called out UFC veteran Nate Diaz, who fought Gamebred leader Jorge Masvidal in the octagon and boxing ring.

“Championship belt was the gift for winning this fight. Seven wins, seven first-round finishes, I think I f***ing deserve it,” Ronson said after the win. “I know they have an opponent in mind, but there’s this sh*t that has been beefing with the boss, his name is Nate Diaz. I’d love to defend [Masvidal’s] honor, even though he already whooped his f***ing a**.

“I’d love to fight him for the belt if Diaz is willing to fight under Gamebred banner. Maybe it could be the first pay-per-view, we could make some f***ing money, ‘cause that guy is not a real fighter. That’s a real f***ing badass [Masvidal], the guy [Diaz] is a pretender. That’s who I want next.”
